Paramore Discuss How 'After Laughter' Came To Be, State "I didn’t even know if we were going to make another record."

Paramore have opened up about the process of creating the upcoming record 'After Laughter' and how it almost didn't happen in a recent interview with The New York Times, regarding the release of the upcoming record. Hayley Williams shared the following about the difficult time after the self-titled era:
“You can run on the fumes of being a teenager for as long as you want, but eventually life hits you really hard. I didn’t even know if we were going to make another record."
“There was a moment when I didn’t even want it to happen. Then it was like, I want it to happen, but I don’t know how we’re going to do it.”

Before starting the process for 'After Laughter', Hayley Williams found herself in a very doubtful place, questioning about anything and everything she was. This was partly due to the many memberchanges that Paramore have gone through throughout the years, making Williams doubt herself. She shared the following about this self-doubt:
“We were down another member—same old story almost from Day 1. It made me question everything—am I doing something wrong? You read things that people say about you and eventually you just think, ‘Oh, I must be some kind of diva bitch.’ I know that’s not me, but it caused a lot of self-doubt.”

The new music will be a shift from the band's previous work, but let's be honest, when have Paramore NOT done that? The band shared that they're about done with headbanging at this point. Lyrically this album will be quite real again. Every feeling felt in the past few years has gotten a place on the record, making the lyrical content of the album a rather dark one. Hayley Williams said the following about this:
“A lot of life happened. I couldn’t imagine putting something on an album that says ‘life’s great, everything’s cool, party with me.”

Paramore released their first new song since 2013 yesterday (April 19th).
This track, titled 'Hard Times', will be featured on the band's upcoming record 'After Laughter' which will release on May 12th. In addition, Paramore have also announced a tour for their European and UK fans. More information about this tour can be found here.
